American Muscle Car: Buick Gran Sport/Oldsmobile 442American Muscle Car: Buick Gran Sport/Oldsmobile 442
Buick Gran Sport WHAT'S THAT? A BUICK? -- "Yeah, it's a Gran Sport. Wanna race?" And that was usually the last of the conversation as the torque monster from Flint, Michigan buried its competition in leather-upholstered style. Stage 1 GS cars boasted an honest, dyno-tested 515 lb/ft of torque, the most torque of any U.S. production car EVER, including the mighty Hemi. Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick? '69 - '71 Hurst Olds 442 4-BARREL, 4-SPEED, DUAL EXHAUST -- That spells 442, Oldsmobile's entry into the horsepower wars. Olds was doing pretty well with the 330 C.I Cutlass, but their 400 engine turned it up several notches. Once again the Rocket Olsmobiles were back in the thick of it, just like they were in the fifties!

American MuscleCar: Buick Regal GNX/'55-57' Chevrolet Bel-AirAmerican MuscleCar: Buick Regal GNX/'55-57' Chevrolet Bel-Air
Buick Regal GNX: GRAND NATIONAL -- Buick just won't quit. After their quiet but devastating assault on the muscle car wars during the late sixties with cars like the Stage 1 Gran Sport, they quietly re-entered the super car wars in the late eighties with a turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 engine in an all-black Regal. The little turbo V-6 was such a screamer, and the car itself was so outrageous, that they're now among the most collectible cars of all time. '55-'57 Chevrolet Bel Air: CLASSIC MUSCLE - Many people say this is where the muscle car era began. The '55 Chevy was Chevrolet's opening into the world of auto performance, with all-new styling and the single most important development in the history of American performance... the 265 cubic inch small block V-8. '55-'57 Chevys changed the landscape of American automotive performance, and today they're still the most popular collector car in the world.

Automobiles - Buick (History Channel)Automobiles - Buick (History Channel)
No one would have believed that the tinkering of a plumber would turn into the foundation of the world's largest corporation. But it did. David Dunbar Buick invented a process to adhere porcelain to tubs and other bathroom fixtures. But the Scottish immigrant dreamed of making a mark out of the bathroom, and set to work building a car. By 1900, he enlisted the aid of another inventor, Walter Marr, and they built their first vehicle. Their invention attracted the attention of one of Michigan's wealthiest men, William Crapo Durant, the president of the world's largest buggy-building business. As soon as he drove one of Buick's early creations, Durant realized that the days of the horse and buggy were over. He teamed up with Buick, and the two went on to make history. By the thirties, Buicks were regarded as some of the finest cars ever made. From the first Buicks through the birth of General Motors and into history, this is the compelling story of the partnership that eventually became the basis for the largest company in the world.
